Voicemail and call forwarding to capture a message from every caller

With conditional forwarding, unanswered calls reach a CallReply voicemail: the caller hears a greeting, leaves a message and gets a text. This feature is rolling out gradually and is not available everywhere yet: the app tells you whether it is offered for your country and carrier.

Call back: Mrs Garner, boiler fault

What voicemail adds

Voicemail at work. Where the service is offered, unanswered calls reach the CallReply voicemail.

Messages inside the app

The caller leaves a voice message after the greeting, and you find it in CallReply. No more dialling your carrier's voicemail number.

Voice message received

Forwarding only when needed

Conditional forwarding only kicks in if you do not answer, are unreachable or are on another call. When you pick up, nothing changes.

No answer · Unreachable

A text for the caller

On top of the voice greeting, the person gets a text confirming their call was received. They know you will get back to them.

Text sent to caller

Availability shown upfront

The service depends on the country and the carrier. The app clearly tells you whether it is offered for your line before you turn anything on.

Setting up forwarding

  1. 01 Check availability Open the Voicemail section in the app. If the service is not yet offered for your carrier, it says so.
  2. 02 Choose when to forward No answer, unreachable or busy: you decide in which situations a call goes to the CallReply voicemail.
  3. 03 Activate the forwarding code The app walks you through dialling the right conditional forwarding code, which your carrier then registers.
  4. 04 Test with another phone Call yourself without answering, listen to the greeting, leave a message, then check that it shows up in the app.

How does conditional forwarding work?

Mobile carriers accept standard GSM codes that forward a call to another number under certain conditions. For example, **61*number# forwards when you do not answer, **62*number# when the phone is unreachable, and **67*number# when you are already on a call. With CallReply, that number is the CallReply voicemail. Your line stays the same, customers still dial your usual number, and only the calls you do not take are redirected. You can turn forwarding off at any time with the matching cancel code.

Why is it not available everywhere?

Call forwarding depends on networks: each country and carrier has its own conditions, and some plans charge for or limit forwarding. CallReply is therefore opening this service gradually, carrier by carrier, once it has been checked to work. Until your line is covered, the app does not offer activation, and you keep the core feature: an automatic text sent from your own number after every missed or rejected call. We would rather show “not available yet” than promise a service that may not work.

How is this different from the text reply alone?

Without voicemail, CallReply spots the missed call in the Android call log and sends a text from your number. The caller knows you will call back, but cannot explain what they need, except by replying to the text. With the CallReply voicemail, they leave a voice message you listen to in the app, so you can prepare your call back. The two work together: the text reassures, the voice message gives you context.

Who is it for?

For businesses that receive detailed requests: repairs, quotes, bookings. A text is not always enough, because you need to know what the call is about before ringing back. The CallReply voicemail collects those explanations and keeps them in the app, next to your missed call history, instead of leaving them on the carrier's voicemail.

For people who often work where coverage is poor: building sites, basements, country roads. When the phone is unreachable, the matching forwarding rule sends the call to voicemail. If the service is not yet open for your carrier, CallReply still catches up on missed calls when the signal returns or the phone restarts.

Good to know

A reply, not an offer

The text sent after the voice message answers someone who called you. Keep it informational: business name, confirmation, when you will call back. If you add a promotion, marketing rules apply, including consent and a free way to opt out, as set out by the French data protection authority (CNIL).

The STOP list still applies

A number on your STOP list receives no text, whether or not it goes through voicemail. You edit the list from the phone or the web space, and the history shows why nothing was sent.

Voice messages and data

Data is hosted in France, with a retention period for each kind of data. A voice message may contain personal details: do not keep it longer than you need. Export and erasure are requested from “My data”.

Callers with withheld numbers

A caller with a withheld number can leave a voice message if forwarding is on, but will not get a text, since there is no number. If their message does not include a call-back number, you will not be able to reach them.

Frequently asked questions

Is voicemail available for my carrier?

Open the Voicemail section in the app: it tells you whether the service is offered for your country and carrier. The rollout is gradual, and many lines are not covered yet.

Does my carrier charge for call forwarding?

It depends on your plan. Some carriers include forwarding, others charge for it or limit it. Check your plan's terms before activating a forwarding code.

How do I turn forwarding off?

Dial the matching cancel code, for example ##61# for no answer, or follow the steps shown in the app. Your calls then go back to your usual voicemail.

What if the service is not offered where I am?

CallReply keeps working as usual: every missed or rejected call triggers an automatic text from your own number, according to your settings.
